The week was filled with victories, defeats and anticipated glory for the teams.

FNB shimlas Young Guns gain victory over FNB Wits Young Guns, finishing the match with 46-12 on Monday.

FNB UKZN outplayed FNB Rhodes 50-10 in Durban in the opening match of the FNB varsity shield tournament.

The UP-Tuks was not even close to a win as FNB Maties Young Guns securing comfortable 47-16 win in Pretoria, on Monday afternoon.

In Bloemfontein, FNB UJ  YG earned their glory with final score of 45 to 17 of FNB CUT YG. Although being penalised regularly for ill-discipline, UJ proved that the scoring of tries would be sufficient to earn them a victory. 

FNB WSU won against FNB UFH securing a score of 37-22 in front of their home crowd in Alice on Monday to win the Eastern Cape derby.

FNB Madibaz showed their dominance in Port Elizabeth with a satisfactory 38-21 win against the FNB CPUT to open their Varsity Shield account.

The crowd at the Wits Rugby stadium were treated to an amazing game that left visitors the FNB Shimlas secure a late 33-26 victory over FNB Wits team.

FNB NWU’s  first home game of the season proved to be great one as they were able to seal the score with a 37-21 victory against FNB UWC on Monday.

The FNB CUT Ixias scored their first ever win over FNB UJ in Bloemfontein sealing their final score at 27-26.

FNB Maties stands strong beating the FNB UP- Tuks to a score of 26-24, In their Round three FNB Varsity Cup clash at the Tuks Rugby stadium on Monday evening.

Students panic as UCT becomes engulfed in fire

Students at the University of Cape Town were evacuated to safety on Sunday Afternoon as fire broke into the university premises.

In the meantime the University has cancelled all campus activities including classes, tutorials, laboratory work and tests.

On Sunday Evening the UCT released a statement, saying that all University activities will be canccelled on Monday and Tuesday.

“No classes, tutorials, laboratory work or tests will take place on Monday, 19 April or Tuesday, 20 April. We will assess the situation and provide further updates before midday on Tuesday,” they said. 

“The safety of students and staff is paramount. For safety reasons, campus will be locked down and no one, other than emergency services, will be allowed access. We are all anxious about the extent of the damage to the Rondebosch campus. We will provide updates as soon as we are able to do so.”
