Nompendulo Mkhatshwa, former president of the Student Representative Council of the Wits University who was at the helm of the #FeesMustFall campaign now stands strong beside prominent figures in parliament as one of ANC’s youngest MPs, at the age of 24.
Nompendulo was born in 1994 at the Florence Nightingale hospital in Hillbrow, Joburg. Mkhatshwa is a BSC geography graduate. We all got to see how she was driven by the plight of the country’s youth, in her involvement in the #FeesMustFall movement.
Her trademark ANC Doek and clenched fist gracing the front covers and pages of newspapers and lifestyle magazine covers drew us more into her world. She has a fighters spirit- gender activist who believes that more still needs to done for the youth of South Africa.
Mkhatshwa still strongly stands by the youth and through advising and supporting students fighting for truly free and improved higher education.
This youth month we celebrate youth like Nompendulo Mkhatshwa who continue to make a difference, we celebrate her strength, passion and love for the youth and women of South Africa.
