A fact about tourism is that it contributes immensely towards economic growth and has the ability to get industries of the world as well, student entrepreneurs to develop through its industry.
Day 1 of the Department of Tourism’s visit to the western Cape-led us into the world of winemakers, the wine industry and wine service trainers. The first day was marked with a visit to the Simomsig wine Estate in Stellenbosch.
The deputy minister of Tourism Amos Fish Mahlalela graced the finest restaurant in Stallenbosch, Simonsig, and Lanzerac, where he shed light on how the wine industry has contributed towards the development of the youth development and with a lot of wineries establishing themselves in light of tourists attractions.
One of the programmes which recruit young people in tourism, looking for them to enter the industry of winemakers as entrepreneurs.
Simonsig wine Estate, Stellenbosch
The wine service training programme takes in grade eight, nine, ten and university students and introduces them to the worlds finest restaurants which are center of tourist’s attractions within South Africa. These programmes include 60% of of training and 40% of theory.
Lanzerec Hotel and Spa, wine barrels
This initiative was put in place to encourage the youth to take on this innovative industry, it recruits youth across the country, providing them the opportunity to break into tourism.

The minister shared that he is looking to have innovations where all industries and various fields work together and contribute towards tourism. He highlighted the apex priorities which his department should take on and this includes:
Ensuring that the department contributes towards economic growth at the same time ensuring inclusivity
ensuring that young people are able to be absorbed by the system
Assisting government with job creation
Working towards doubling the number of Tourists visiting South Africa by 2030 which now sits on over 10 million
Mobilising South African’s to contribute more towards tourism
