The Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR), the era where technology will drive the universe, changing the way we live and work.
South Africa has been under a lot of pressure as job security of many citizens is under threat or rather the fact that a lot of citizens are living with the lack of job security.
Jobless rate surges
what does this mean for those already in university trying to obtain a qualification and all the unemployed graduates trying to get jobs.
Taking that the unemployment rate has risen with 6.7 million people without jobs, and with the youth between 15-24 making up 54.6%, this is the scary reality that the youth is faced with.
The issue of unemployment is still set to rise and with the President of South Africa, Cyril Ramophosa mentioning that African economies are unable to accommodate a significant number of young people, especially since our education is not aligned with the needs of the country.
What does this really mean?
Taking into consideration, “fees must fall” movements, the fight for free education, one can not help but ask are we fighting for qualifications which won’t help us nor the country moving forward.
How will the government work to ensure that graduates use that same degree they went to univeristy for and have obtained to benefit and be competent leading to the 4IR.
Although the 4IR will bring new job opportunities especially for the upcoming generations and those in primary school.
what happens to graduates and students already in the process of obtaining their qualifications?
Those students who have already chosen their desired qualifications, how are they ensured that they are taking beneficial careeer paths which will not see them stranded come the 4IR?
What does this mean for all those who have already been retrenched?
Although solutions are being promised, these solutions should be accompanied with plans as to how these solutions will be carried out and what plans will be put in place to ensure that every qualification serves to be of value to survive the 4IR.
Imagine if we lived in country where corruption was not this dire, how many gaps were going to be filled to avoid the impact leading up to the 4IR?
