Sefako Makgato Health Sciences University (SMU) has launched a new App which will assist with screening staff and students for Covid-19.
The new App will be available to the students, staff and joint appointees at the Goerge Mukhari Academic hospital.
The App can be accessed on any mobile device that will be used to assist in the screening of staff and students.
Taking that Medical students are now returning to school, the university sees this as a great opportunity to help monitor and contain the virus.
“The SMU Covid-19 monitor App was developed due to the South African government currently being placed under pressure to scale up screening and testing for the corovirus in communities. Organisations and institutions of higher learning are actively working on ways to support the government in conquering the spread of Covid-19” , says Dr Eric Pule SMU spokesperson.
This is how the App will work: Students and staff will be asked questions partaining to their health and possible exposure to the virus and any previous testing. The app will then give them a colour- coded risk score and give recommendations based on given answers.
The app will also enable those who have tested positive or have tested previously to self report.
