Universities have been preparing for students who will be returning to campus. These institutions are expected to issue students with travel permits.
Institutions may only allow a maximum of 33% of the student body to return to campus under level 3. This includes students in their final year of undergraduate study or postgraduate students who require clinical training, laboratory practical sessions and specialised equipment needed to complete their studies.
University students are expected to return to campus, under strict compliance with national regulations and with permission from the institutions.
Stellenbosch University Rector and Vice-Chancellor Professor Wim De Villiers mentioned that the institution “will need time to prepare to ensure that staff and students could return safely”
“Under level 3 the university has to issue returning students with travel permits. The first and second examination opportunities as scheduled for June will all remain online assessments as per our prior communication,”De Villiers said.
The Univerisity of Cape Town vice-chancellor Professor Mamokgethi Phakeng also added that, UCT has plans put in place for the safe return of staff and students which are in compliance with national regulations.
