In a male dominated industry women issues are not normally at the forefront of discussions, however, the Minister of Public Works and infrastructure Pertricia de Lille set to include the issue of gender based violence as part of her address at The South African Black Technical and Allied Careers Organisation (SABTACO) event the gallagher estate convention centre
In the mist of Gender based violence crisis, De Lille calls on men within the built environment industry to be advocates on construction sites, promoting gender equality. The purpose is to have these messages carried over the domestic lines.
De Lille also took time to address regulation issues within the built environment industry. Some of the issues she put on the table are:
- lack of consistent engagement and and follow up action
- Lack of continuation to tackle the key issues of transformation of ethical leadership
She further stated that accountability can be ensured through continuous engagement, including contract and consequence management.
