The Baby Turtle green energy solutions, a DSI initiative which aims to provide energy solutions for rural communities and informal traders, who are off the electricity grid.
This initiative is a collaboration between government and the private sector. The government’s goal is to provide energy solutions to COVID-19 field hospitals.
The Department stated that, through this collaboration, it aims to introduce solar energy solutions to rural areas, “contributing to the growth of the country’s green economy” and at the same time ensuring that young people and women within these areas have access to solutions which generate an income.
The Department of Science and Innovation plans to roll out hydrogen fuel cell technologies in various parts of South Africa.
“This is also an opportunity to demonstrate the potential role alternative energy sources can play in our everyday lives, given South Africa’s growing energy challenges,” said CEO of Bambili Energy, Zanele Mavuso Mbatha.
@DSI unveiled seven hydrogen fuel cell systems as the primary power source for the field hospital, which has facilities for testing and screening, as well as life-saving equipment such as ventilators in the intensive care unit. https://t.co/qh5Gn9Vohb#Covid19InSApic.twitter.com/f9Ay2BhFCy
