The Eight students arrested following
violent protests at Mangosuthu University of Technology (MUT) – charged with
public violence – were granted bail on Tuesday.
The students were released after their
court appearance in the Umlazi Magistrate court yesterday. The university was
forced to suspend academic until further notice.
Last week officials from the department of Higher Education and Training met up with the student leaders to discuss the grievances brought forward by students. Minister Naledi Pandor issued a statement in response to the 12 raised by SAUS. MUT management also had a meeting with student representatives to discuss the issues at hand.
