Higher Education Minister, Naledi Pandor has dissolved the council of the University of Fort Hare (UFH) in the Eastern Cape.
This comes after reports in the media stating that the University’s council is divided and this is due to the misconduct of senior officials and suspensions served on them.
Pandor saw the need to intervene so to ensure good governance at the university and to make certain that an environment conducive to teaching, learning and research prevails.
Minister Pandor followed by appointing former Wits Vice-Chancellor, Professor Loyiso Nongxa, as an administrator and his duties will resume immediately for 12 months.
The minister said that she will do everything to support the University to ensure that it is governed in an orderly manner.
