Varsity football: 6 days to go until kick-off πŸ”₯πŸ”₯

Ahead of the Varsity Football kickoff, the UJ Women’s and UJ Men’s captains joined the “RogerGoodeShow” on 5FM, before joining the launch on the 17th of July.

The Varsity Football captains received their ceremonial pennants at the Varsity Football launch at the UJ Soweto Campus.

Varsity football will be returning for its 7th edition of action, where teams will go head-to-head in a bid to savour the victory with one best team which will be left standing.

UP-tuks have made their mark as the team to beat and best team in the history of varsity football, claiming three titles.

To date, 16 teams have played Varsity Football and now we prepare for the eight teams, nine rounds of action packed football, with fans cheering on the team to beat.

Counting down the days to Varsity football kickoff

22 days to go for the much anticipated Varsity Football as they gear up to take it to the fields. Nine rounds, eight teams to battle it out on the field starting from the 25th of July to the 26th of September 2019.

Eight teams that will battle it out: Central University of Technology (CUT), North-West University (NWU), Tshwane University of Technology (TUT), University of the Free-State (UFS), University of Johannesburg (UJ), University of Kwa-Zulu Natal (UKZN), University of Pretoria (UP) and University of Western Cape (UWC).

Here are the fixtures:

Round 8 matches will take on: 12 September 2019 at 16:00

Second match: 12 September 2019 at 18:15

Round 9: finals will take place place on the 26th of September 2019 at 18:00

CUT student receives gold at IFAA

Guillaume Pelser (19), a first-year civil engineering student secures gold at the International Field Archery Association (IFAA), an indoor world championship held in Wellington, New Zealand. The 19-year-old went against archers from various countries under the freestyle unlimited young adult male category. Pelser claimed his victory and set a new record.

He discovered his passion in archery in October 2016, where he met Tempe archery club chairperson.

Pelser started participating in the competitions and received the Free-State colours in 2017 and 2018. He competed for the first time in 2018 at the IFAA indoor archery competition which was in Welkom, he was also victorious and received a gold medal.

Pelser was also invited to participate in the world championships in New Zealand. ” It is a great honour to know that all my hard work and dedication to the archery spot had paid off. My goal in archery is to qualify as a world champion in all different archery competitions.”
