Actor, Activist, and Academic, Naledi Chirwa an epitome of strength, driven by her love for black women, black people, black students and South Africa, it is safe to say that her greatness carries on.

Naledi Chirwa was born in the city gold, Vosloorus in Mamelodi under the care of her mother and grandmother, now that explains her love for black women.

Making her political strides

She was introduced to student politics in 2010 when she served as deputy president of the SRC at Tshwane North College.

Chirwa plays a strong role in student politics. At the age of 20 she became an activist for the Economic Freedom Front and this was in the year 2014.

Her greatness carried on as she made the Power FM’s annual list of powerful South African women in 2017 and she was also recognised for her examplory work as she made the list of 200 most influential young South Africans in the same year.

You’d think it ends there but she has an abundance of skills and talents, as an Actress, Director,Writer, presenter outside her political arena.

In the words of Naledi Chirwa:

‘It takes effort and dedication to be a young mother, a student, a worker and an activist at the same time. But it’s fulfilling to be among other young woman who are passionate about being a canvas for change. Politics is for all of us. The quest for liberty is for all of us.’

Her motto in life: to be deliberate

She believes that womens’ voices should be heard and believes that more women should entre the political space to be part of the decision making if not be the decision makers of this country.

Chirwa has taken part in sanitary towel campaign and other programmes that are for and which support the liberation and dignity of black women.

She expressed this in many ways including writing and directing plays, and implementing transformative programmes in institutions of higher learning that address the inequality prevalent in academia

Her latest achievement was marked when she made it into parliament and sworn in as the youngest EFF MP.

To every youth making a difference, we celebrate you this youth month.
