AFRICAN SCHOLARS’ FUND

ABOUT THE BURSARY PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED & COVERAGE VALUE

Bursary awards will be granted to students within ALL fields of study, who pursue their studies at a FET College, N1 – N6 qualification and certain practical courses.>

The bursary award will cover the cost of registration fees and course fees only.
 

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):

  • South African citizen
  • 25 years of age or younger
  • Completed Grade 10 Science and Mathematics (minimum)
  • Currently studying or intend on studying on a full-time basis at an FET College,
  • Studying currently in college, much have achieved a minimum average of 50% for all exams and tests completed.

HOW TO APPLY FOR THE BURSARY

Download and complete the African Scholars Fund Bursary Application Form (pdf).

The following documents must be submitted with your application form:

  • ID document (certified copy of)
  • Matric report/ certificate (certified copy of)
  • If in college: prior college exam statements of results
  • If in college: current class test results
  • Parents/ guardians proof of income (latest payslips/ pension receipts/ affidavit if unemployed/ death certificate if deceased)
  • Motivational letter about why you deserve the bursary and your household circumstances (in applicants handwriting)
  • Stamped and self-addressed envelope

First semester: 31 October 2019.
Second semester: 31 May 2019.

First trimester: 31 October 2019.

TETA bursary

Requirements:

  • Currently in Grade 12 or have completed matric
  • Intending to study transport-related qualifications in 2020
  • Currently registered students at Institutions of Higher Learning (including TVET Colleges) and require funding for 2020 academic year Applicants must be studying at or intending to study at Accredited Aviation Schools, Accredited Diving Schools and Registered TVETs and HEIs
  • Aviation students with PPL
  • Commercial Divers with matric (Senior Certificate)

How to Apply: 

Application forms, guidelines and other relevant documents are available on the TETA website www.teta.org.za, under TETA 2019/2020 Unemployed Bursary Learner Support.

1. Applicants must be South African citizens and be at the age of 35 years or below.

2. Applicants should select one qualification on the application form.

3. Only one application form will be accepted per learner.

4. Applications should be accompanied by all documents required in the checklist attached to the application form.

SAB Foundation, THOLOANA ENTERPRISE PROGRAMME

The aim of the programme is to support entrepreneurship development and social innovation, with a emphasis on small, medium and micro-sized enterprises for women and youth, people in rural areas, as well as persons with disability.

The innovation summit

For all who are into the world of science and technology, The innovation summit offers Tech entrepreneurs and innovators an opportunity to participate, grow their network, and bring their innovations to life and be compatible with the advent of the industrial 4.0. This programme creates a platform where innovators and tech entrepreneurs can collaborate with the government, academia, and industry ” to build an African system for innovation on a practical level.”

Another benefit is the opportunity offered to connect with entrepreneurs from various countries, backgrounds, disciplines, and world-views to “create an innovative economic environment that will prosper the South African economy.”

The National Youth Development Agency

This initiative was put in place by the government to help combat the issues that South African youth are affected by on a daily basis. Youth in South Africa youth apply and are with this can be exposed to career guidance services, mentorship, skills development and training, entrepreneurial development and support, health awareness programmes and involvement in sport.

JA youth enterprise development programme

This initiative offers opportunities to the youth between the ages of 18 and 35. It looks to grow youth entrepreneurs. It looks to grow youth entrepreneurs through education and training, enough to assist them with establishing their own businesses. It grooms future entrepreneurs to understand and acquire the neccessary skills for sustainable businesses. The programme runs for a period of three to four months.

MORE ABOUT THE BURSARY PROGRAMME – COVERAGE VALUE

The bursary will provide coverage for the following expenses: tuition fees, prescribed textbooks, transport, approved on/ off campus accommodation and meals.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

  • South African citizen
  • Between 18 and 35 years old
  • Currently unemployed
  • Completed Matric OR currently in Matric
  • Studying or intend on studying full-time within one of the aforementioned fields of study
  • Studying or registered to study at an accredited tertiary institute (including TVET Colleges, HETs, Accredited Diving Schools and Accredited Aviation Schools)
  • Good academic record with a minimum overall average of 50%
  • In possession of a valid Private Pilot License (PPL) if applying for Commercial Pilot Training
  • In possession of a valid Commercial Pilot License if applying for Instructor’s or Instrument Rating
  • Students from disadvantaged backgrounds and those with disabilities are welcome to apply
  • NOT currently funded in any TETA programme or by another sponsor

  • ID document (certified copy)
  • Matric latest results, if currently in Matric (certified copy)
  • Matric certificate, if completed Matric (certified copy)

  • Qualifications/ certificates (certified copy)
  • Parents/ guardians ID documents (certified copies)
  • Parents/ guardians death certificate if deceased (certified copies)
  • Proof of household income (latest payslips if employed/ affidavit if unemployed)
  • Quote from tertiary institute of tuition fees, textbooks, accommodation, etc
  • Proof of registration from a tertiary institute/ Admission letter if not currently registered
  • Acceptance letter from tertiary institute/ proof of application if acceptance letter is not yet available
  • Pilots to include: Private Pilot License (PPL)
  • Commercial Diving students: must be at least 18 years old, be able to swim and be fluent in English (reading, writing, and understanding)
  • If studying at a Private Institute: Valid proof of accreditation by the relevant authority/ body for study applied
