ABOUT THE BURSARY PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED

Sasol will be awarding bursaries to deserving studies within the following fields of study:
Undergraduate studies:

  • Chemical Engineering (BSc/ BEng)
  • Civil Engineering (BSc/ BEng)
  • Electrical Engineering (BSc/ BEng)
  • Electronic Engineering (BSc/ BEng)
  • Industrial Engineering (BSc/ BEng)
  • Mechanical Engineering (BSc/ BEng)
  • Mining Engineering (BSc/ BEng)
  • Chemistry (Masters compulsory) (BSc)
  • Geology (Hons compulsory) (BSc)
  • Metallurgy (Hons compulsory) (BSc)

University of Technology studies:

  • Electrical Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Mine Surveying
  • Process Instrumentation

Postgraduate studies:

  • Chemistry (Masters/ PhD)
  • Chemical Engineering (Masters/ PhD)

MORE ABOUT THE BURSARY PROGRAMME – COVERAGE VALUE & SERVICE CONTRACT

The bursary will provide full cover for the following expenses for undergraduate students: registration fees, tuition fees, exam fees, accommodation (of a single room in university residence/ equal amount to stay in other accommodation), meal allowance and an allowance for books and pocket money (approximately R12 000 per annum).
Postgraduate students will receive an allowance of approximately R10 000 per month over the duration of their studies (24 months Masters Degree and 36 months PhD degree).

Once students have completed their studies and graduated, they will be required to enter a service-binding contract (work back obligation) with the Sasol Group – the duration of employment will be equal to the duration of funding received.
 

MORE ABOUT THE BURSARY PROGRAMME – SELECTION PROCESS

Shortlisted applicants will be contacted and invited to attend an interview – this will be done telephonically and via written correspondence by 31 May 2019 at the latest.
Interviews will be held during the June/July school holidays, whereby candidates will be assessed by psychometric tests and a structured panel interview.
Notification of the outcome will be communicated by 31 August 2019 at the latest.
Bursaries will be awarded for 2020 studies (no funding will be provided for outstanding study debt).
 

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):

  • South African citizen
  • Completed Matric or currently in Matric
  • Studying or intend on studying full-time studies within one of the aforementioned fields of study
  • Studying or intend at an accredited University or University of Technology in South Africa
  • Current Matric students: must have achieved the following minimum results: 70% (level 6) for Mathematics, 70% (level 6) for Science, 50% (level 5) for English
  • Current University of Technology students: must have achieved the following minimum results: level 5 for Mathematics, level 5 for Science, level 5 for English
  • Current University students: must have passed all subjects for the period of study already completed
  • Students with disabilities are welcome to apply
  • Genuinely interested in following a career in your chosen field of study

IFA Bursary South Africa 2020 – 2021

ABOUT THE BURSARY PROGRAMME – COVERAGE VALUE & SELECTION

The IFA will be awarding bursaries to children of active members, within their chosen field of study.
The bursary value will be to a maximum of R60 000 per annum, covering tuition fees, prescribed books, accommodation and study equipment.
 

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

  • South African citizen
  • A biological child/ child of a legal guardian of an active IFA who are paying their monthly business fees (and must remain an active member for the duration of your studies)
  • IFA member must remain an active member for the entire duration of your studies
  • Under 21 years old at the time of bursary application deadline (30 April)
  • Completed Matric OR currently in Matric
  • Achieved a minimum overall average of 60% in Grade 11 final results or in Matric
  • Studying or intend on studying towards a full-time undergraduate qualification (first and second year only)
  • Studying or intend on studying at a South African tertiary institute, accredited by the Department of Education
  • NOT currently in receipt of any other bursary funding from another institute
  • Will complete your studies in the minimum number of years as stated by your tertiary institution

HOW TO APPLY FOR THE BURSARY

Download and complete the IFA Bursary Application Form 
 

Submit the following supporting documentation along with your application form:

  • ID document (certified copy)
  • ID photo attached to the form
  • Grade 11 final results (certified copy)
  • Matric results or progress report, if currently in Matric (certified copy)
  • Matric certificate, if completed Matric (certified copy)
  • Latest tertiary progress report, if currently in your first year of tertiary studies (certified copy)
  • Parents/ guardians proof of income (if employed: latest payslips/ letter from employer/ tax return statement, if unemployed: sworn statement, if self-employed: latest financial statement)
  • Death certificates if one or both parents are deceased
  • Proof of legal guardian (where applicable)
  • Sworn statement from one parent if your parents are separated/ divorced
  • Motivational letter written by your parent/ guardian
  • Confirmation of acceptance to university (to be sent successful candidates by 20 January 2021)

Who MUST apply:


 South African Citizen only, preferably employed at the time of application
 Students registered/accepted for the above qualifications (in any year of study)
 Preference will be given to historically disadvantaged individuals
 Must have passed their previous year of study (if student was enrolled in 2019)
 Must not be funded from any other source/sponsor/financial aid.
